What I've learnt from making my school magazine

By getting the chance to create a school magazine, it has taught me many things. Firstly it helped me to become more familiar with the programme 'Adobe Indesign' and 'Adobe Photoshop' which I have used to create the magazine and to edit my pictures on. Hopefully these skills will help me do well when making my music magazine. I will take ideas from the layout of my pictures and text and judge how big and small they need to be next time in order to make the magazine as detailed as i can. 
I think i will use similar ideas from my contents page of my school magazine, as this has worked nicely. The pictures have been spread out evenly, and surrounded by information and relevant captions. I have used a logo on both pages to make it recognisable to the audience, and it also makes it look professional.

Front cover and contents page draft 3

This is my final draft of my front page for the school magazine. The differences on this draft is that i have added a picture of a opened school book under the big picture of the school along the top. I have done this mainly to fill up the spaces but also to give effect that it is a magazine. The second change i have made on this draft, is i have added a picture of a 'effort sticker' i took myself on the bottom left of the page. I also added a caption underneath it saying 'See what students were the first to get effort stickers this term!' This is appealing to the audience and makes them want to look inside.

On my final draft of my contents page, i have done what i done on the front page and added the picture of a open book next to the page title to give effect. Also i have added a little bit more information under the pictures just to persuade the audience a little bit more. This is my final product of my magazine front and contents page.

Front cover and contents page draft 2

This is my second draft of my Front page of my school magazine. The changes i made to it this time are 

-added a picture of a student in midshot, i made this change so it met the brief
-I moved the date of the magazine to the top, i did this to make more space at the bottom of the page
-I moved the issue number to the right hand side, also to make more space for added text
-I added a caption to the picture of the student in midshot, i done this to give some more information about a article.

This is my second draft of my Contents page for my school magazine, this time the changes i made was 

-I added more text under the picture on the right hand side, i done this so it gives some more information on the article 
- I cropped the picture on the top a bit so it gave more space to spread out pictures and text
- I also added text to both captions under the pictures on the right, which can attract the audience even more and make them buy the magazine


I still need to make my pictures look more professional on both pages and maybe even change a few to make them relate to the stories more.

 Front Page
This is my draft for my front page of my magazine, i have picked these colours because it blends in with the bottom of the picture at the school which is across the top of the page. I've made sure i've included at least 4 pictures over the 2 pages (cover and contents page). 

Contents page

On my draft for the contents page for my magazine, its included the contents text of what will include inside, pictures giving hints and examples of different stories, with captions underneath which relates to the page number and which story it will be on. I did not want to overload the page with a lot of information and pictures, so i kept it simple. 

Reasons for my magazine pictures and stories

Right, i've taken near enough 30 pictures I can choose for to put on my front page or contents page for my magazine and have already attached them to my blog..Under each picture there is a description on what the picture shows. On my draft of my contents and cover pages, i have included the stories i will put on my magazine, also shown below. i will use page 10 (subject of the week), page 17 (teachers story) and mention page 13 (competition and quiz time) as stories on my front page. On the contents page, i will include that image below with the same stories shown, and show a preview of students work of the week, and mention a few revision tips.

School magazine mood board

i chose these pictures to go onto my mood board because they represent school really well and are examples of what school is about. I incldued an example of a magazine cover so it can give me a guide when im creating my magazine. Even though they are cartoon images, they still are good examples of things at school.
